About CantonesePath
CantonesePath helps you learn the Cantonese people actually use in Hong Kong: at the cha chaan teng, on the tram, around the family dinner table.
We focus on depth rather than volume. You won’t find thousands of word lists here. Instead, you’ll find carefully built learning paths, stories about Hong Kong’s past and present, and the everyday expressions that make the language come alive.
Who It’s For
People come to Cantonese for very different reasons. CantonesePath is built especially for:
- Families and heritage learners. You may understand more than you can say. You want to talk with parents, grandparents or in-laws, and feel at home in the language of your family.
- Professionals heading to Hong Kong. Doctors, therapists and others preparing to live and work in the city, who need practical Cantonese for daily life and the workplace.
- People who grew up with Hong Kong. Those who spent their early years in Hong Kong, perhaps decades ago, and want to reconnect with the sounds, places and memories they still carry.
How You Learn
Learning Paths. Each path follows one real situation, such as ordering at a cha chaan teng or getting around the city. Every path has five short lessons. Each lesson has a short dialogue with audio, Jyutping and English, interactive practice, and speaking prompts. Path 01 starts at A1, beginner level.
Built on proven teaching methods. Our learning paths are aligned with the CEFR (the international framework for language levels) and follow a communicative approach: you learn by understanding and responding in real situations, not by memorising lists. Each lesson builds step by step, so what you learn is something you can actually use in Hong Kong.
Survival Cantonese. Short games for the essentials: greetings, numbers, polite phrases and more. A good place to start.
Explore Hong Kong for Free. Our free library brings the language to life through:

- Living Culture: food, festivals and customs, and what they mean to the people who live them
- Hong Kong Slang: the colourful expressions you won’t find in a textbook
- Grammar in Action: useful patterns explained clearly, with everyday examples
The Gigantic Crab’s Corner. One-minute stories about Hong Kong, from the past, the present and what comes next.
How CantonesePath Is Made
CantonesePath is created by a Hong Kong-born teacher, not generated by a machine.
People choose every topic, write the stories, design each lesson and check every line of Cantonese. AI helps with the behind-the-scenes work, such as drafting practice questions, formatting pages and building interactive games.
AI is a helper, never the author. Every word you learn here has been checked by someone who grew up speaking it.
The Teacher Behind CantonesePath
CantonesePath was founded by Mandy, a Hong Kong-born language educator with three decades of experience across media, communications and teaching. She brings a storyteller’s curiosity and a teacher’s understanding of how people really learn.
